Colouring and Effects
Changing the style and look of your sanded floor

Stunning effects can be created with professionally sanded floors with skill, care and attention.

If you want to change the colour of the wood, an option is to stain or colour a floor.

If the wood is very light like pine for example, staining or colouring is often necessary if you want a darker effect. For example see the gallery or request a brochure.

As well as colouring, we can use washes and other effects to achieve the best result.

What type of colour to use?

On the market there are lots of different brands and types of colours to choose from, however some are better than others.

Choosing a type of colour such as spirit based or water based depends on a number of different things. These factors include top seal type, application skill, wood types and the location on the room.

Underneath polyurethane seals Total Floor Care recommends Morrells spirit based stains.
(See chart shown right.)

We recommend Osmo Translucent wax oil colour underneath wax oil.

Warning! Considerable care is required when colouring a sanded floor.

Before you proceed, consult an expert for advice. Don’t forget that all colours look different on different woods, when stained and different from a stain chart.

Hint:  Before you apply colour, always make sure that all surface marks and blemishes in the floor are polished out. When sealed, applying stain to a wooden floor will show up all imperfections.
